Celebrating Christmas @ Aljunied-Hougang Town

It was a lovely and luminous Saturday night on the 24th of November, as residents of Aljunied-Hougang spent a special evening of fun and laughter at Hougang Central Hub.

Together with the MPs of Aljunied GRC, Mr Low Thia Khiang, Mr Pritam Singh and Mr Faisal Manap and MP for Hougang SMC, Mr Png Eng Huat, residents celebrated Christmas in advance with ‘Celebrating Christmas @ Aljunied-Hougang’. The MPs and residents jointly lit the Hub area with warm, pretty festival lights and wished everyone a very Happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

Children and adults alike were all smiles as they played various games planned by the Aljunied-Hougang Town Council. Popcorn, ice cream and pink cotton candy were distributed to residents in the Christmas spirit of giving. Many also had a go at the photo booth, where they could take home a memory of the good time they had that night.

There were many performances that night as well. Jimmy the Juggler put up an exciting show as his act ranged from basic juggling, to dangerous tasks such as balancing a knife on his forehead and juggling with fiery fire sticks! Children too, got a chance to participate in these performances as Jimmy invited them to take a shot at juggling, and have eggs juggled over their heads! His exciting performance was followed by the illusive balloon sculpturing act, where Mr Lightning Fingers thoroughly entertained the audience with his quick hands and comical antics. A Christmas carolling group joined in the fun as well with their rendition of popular Christmas tunes, such as ‘Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer’ and ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town’.

Of course, the event was only complete when Santa and Santarina surprised the crowd and gave out candy to everyone! Children swarmed around him as they excitedly received their presents.

It was a happy, joyous and heart warming event as people from all walks of life came together in this event to welcome the coming Christmas and New Year.
